Great Canadian Song-Along 2025
April 10 -12th, Thursday, Friday, Saturday evenings - 7pm to 11pm
I'll be hosting the Great Canadian Song Along at :
Moose McGuires on Thursday April 10th 7pm
Founded in 1993, the 33rd annual Great Canadian Song-Along is an opportunity for songwriters to write a song related to one or more designated words or phrases and then to perform the song at the Great Canadian Song-Along which will take place over 3 nights. Christophe Elie will host the night of Thursday the 10th of April and Peter Rutherford will host Friday the 11th of April and Chris White - Saturday April 12th. Performances will begin at 7:00 pm. The fine folks at Moose McGuire's, 3320 McCarthy Road in Ottawa have generously offered their establishment at no cost. Doors will be open at 5 if you'd like to go for dinner. We will pass the hat to cover sound costs, with any additional funds collected going to the Food Bank.This year’s songwriter topics are:* Don’t blink

A Celebration of Banned Books - Join us on Friday, April 11th at Heartwood House - 404 McArthur Ave. for an evening celebrating local authors, literacy, and the freedom to read at ALSO’s third annual banned book night, Off the Pages: A Celebration of Banned Books. Local authors will read from their favourite banned books. Christophe Elie is an Ottawa-based political folk singer/songwriter. Elie’s most recent album, Bridging Borders is a collection of songs that explore both the beauty and challenge of the intersections of culture, language, geography and religion. His primary focus is local, mixing music, art and activism in the community, to protect our limited green space and keep issues of social justice top of mind. Elie also hosts a CKCU radio show called “Songs for the Revolution”, hosts a songwriters group in Ottawa called Writers’ Bloc.Christophe Elie est un chansonnier avec 2 albums. Peace Train Canada, with Green Party leader Elizabeth May on board, along with 10 Peace Promoters from across Canada, on Sunday March 2nd will pull out of the infamous Queen Elizabeth Hotel where John Lennon and Yoko Ono asked us to give Peace a Chance, pulling in to New York’s Penn Station on the Adirondack for the UN Meetings on the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW). A Treaty, Canada is not a party to, but Peace Train Canada is calling on our Government to at least become an Observer to the Treaty as a first step. Peace Train Canada has organized “An evening of Music and Words for World Peace”. The event is taking place Wednesday March 5 -7-10pm at The Common Ditch Social - 74 Broad St. 2nd Floor, Manhattan. There will be live music featuring NY based Friends of Kolker, and Political Folk Singer Christophe Elie who will host the event. it will also feature a series of Singer Songwriters including acclaimed Civil Rights, Folk Singer Spook Handy, Alyson Faith, Joel Landy and other Folk Artists to be confirmed. There will also be speakers, Peace Train Canada, ‘Amnesty International’(TBC) and Project Ploughshares. Entry is $15 or PWYC (Pay What you Can) with a portion of the proceeds to go to Amnesty International.
